About Us
ScotLanka Network was inaugurated
in July 2006 as a community based organisation for Sri Lankans in
Scotland. It achieved charitable status (Scottish Charity No. 037513)
in October 2006. ScotLanka’s Management Committee now represents
a mix of Sri Lankan, Scottish and other nationalities.
The idea for the Scotlanka Network was developed
in the aftermath of the Asian Tsunami tragedy. Sri Lankans and members
of the local community worked together through the Kingsway Court
Community Centre to raise funds for the disaster. Together they
raised over seven thousand pounds, which was handed over to the
well known established charity, Glasgow Caring City to be sent to
Sri Lanka. |

ScotLanka Network’s Inaugural Day
|
|
In April 2005, the new ScotLanka Network organised Scotland’s
first ever Sri Lankan Cultural Show, which was attend by more than
three hundred people representing the whole cross section of our
local community. Because of the success of this first event another
was organised in the following year during April 2006. It is hoped
that the event might be a yearly opportunity to celebrate multicultural
integration in Scotland.
